Last Dresden Plate Block Done

 

 

Finally, the last applique stitch done on the 12th Dresden Plate block from the, what, 2011 Scrappy Plate Sew Along?  The time it took me to get through this is making me reconsider doing all those Orange Peel blocks with hand applique.

Anyway, now they are all done and of course I cannot find hide nor hair of my lattice and background fabric.  Luckily I remember it is "Fig Tree Cream", so I can order more and it should match.  I surely would like to get this top together before the end of 2014.

I laid the block down on another Fig Tree quilt I have out on the sofa in my front room/library.  It is so nice to see how great diferent Fig Tree collections all work together.  Both the Dresden quilt and the Stargazer quilt below were made from assorted Fig Tree collections and scraps.  Here is a photo of Stargazer before it was quilted. The pattern is called "Stargazer" and was from the 2007 Fall/Winter APQ magazine, designed by Homestead Hearth.

I liked the pattern so much I made the quilt twice.  I used Fig Tree fabrics for both quilts.  Don't they look completely different?  Have to say I really don't use the one below because those blues just don't work so well in my house.  Wish I had used a bolder border fabric in the blue version.  Maybe a deep bronzey tan instead of that disappearing blah light blue print.

 Hope you all had a great weekend.  We put Eva's Big Girl Bed up and she is happy as can be.  Except for her initial confusion on why the bed wasn't higher and where was the ladder?  Somehow she got the notion a Big Girl Bed was a tall bunk bed...You know, for a BIG girl.

Lovely, lovely quilts and applause for finishing the last Dresden Plate block! Love the fabrics, too!

Is the blue Stargazer quilt already quilted? If not, I can tell you that it's not too late to remove the blue border you find is blah. Been there, done that. It's a bit of unsewing on the long sides, and a stitch or two past the seam allowance where the stars meet. Consider whether that effort will help you love the quilt and, if so, go for it! It's food for thought anyway.

Cheers for Eva's Big Girl bed and how funny that she imagined it would be higher. Have you got a fuzzy rug next to the bed as a soft landing zone for when she rolls out? I made a stuffed "bear rug" for our boys to serve that function. Worked well.

Rainy day here, so hope to machine quilt the two Scottie dog table runners.

The Dresden plate is pretty. I think the quilt will be a beauty. Love the star quilt. I do remember that pattern. I hope I pulled it out. We are in the "new" house finally and the last of the furniture will be here Thursday. I swear I am never moving again!

Isn't it wonderful when you finish the last block in a project from years before - and you still like it! Fig tree fabrics are so lovely and timeless. Loved your story about Eva and her big girl bed...too funny!
