Yesterday I got started making one of the alternate setting blocks for the Designer Mystery 2022 Sew Along sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop. The setting for this quilt is gorgeous, featuring alternate blocks such as the Ohio Star above, and some darker Log Cabin blocks. This quilt will be a stunner when it's done.
This block was the eighth in the series. Four more to go. I thought I'd get a jump on those alternate blocks rather than saving them all up for the end. Each block has a frame around it as well, so that's another task I could tackle.
Thanks to Sandy KN for the suggestions of quilt shops to visit in the Tuscon area. If anyone else wants to weigh in, my friend hasn't left for her trip yet, so there's still time. It's been a while since I have been to a brick-and-mortar quilt shop, how about you?
Have a great weekend everyone.
Mixing it up & working on the alternate blocks gets you familiar with what's ahead for the finish. You can 'audition' the look to decide if it's what you want. We have one quilt shop in our small town that is well-stocked & we like to 'shop local' to keep her in business. I also shop online & in the large city that's two hours away.

Your blocks always look so beautiful! Those pale blue Ohio stars are so delicate and pretty!
My usual is to go to the real brick-and-mortar stores because I have to feel "fondle" all the fabric before I decide. In the last 2 years I have greatly curtailed my fabric purchases, hoping to use up what I already have. I did indulge about 8 months ago when a favorite quilt shop in the desert closed and they had some fantastic sales. You may have been there?? Monica's Quilt & Bead shop?

What a great block! I know you like complex blocks and this is so different and interesting.
I am lucky to have two independent fabric stores in my SoCal city, and a JoAnn's the next city over. A visit to breathe in fabric, color and texture is always a good thing.
