I am so proud of this quilt! Summer Memories, a pattern by Susan Ache, is finished. The sew-along was sponsored by Fat Quartershop, based on a quilt pattern from the book by Susan Ache called Summer Memories. The quilt pattern itself is called Picnic, I believe.
Honestly, I found it rather tedious to make. All those half-square triangles and basket blocks got old after a while. But the finished results are spectacular and I could not be more pleased with the look of the quilt top. It is also one of the flattest tops I have ever made. It really came out so well.
I have a couple of quilt tops that are near the finishing stage that I hope to pull together in the time that is left of this summer. Also, I got three tops back from my quilter that need bindings. I look forward to sharing those with you.
Do any of you have a go-to source for 108-inch quilt backings? I really hate piecing quilt backs and love to get the 108 wide pieces when I can. Fat Quarter Shop really doesn't have that great a selection right now, so I am open to any and all suggestions.
Hope that those of you in the US had a great 4th of July! We live in a golf course community and each year our neighbors go all out and decorate their golf carts and have a parade. It was so much fun to sit curbside and wait for the parade to pass by. Some folks went all out, dressing up as Uncle Sam or an eagle, with golf carts decorated with banners and balloons, and inflatable decorations. It was folksy and fun. My son-in-law invited us over for a shrimp boil for dinner and it was so good. We got home before dark and settled in before the craziness of the fireworks began.
Nice finish Nicole and this is really a lovely quilt....congratulations!!

Nicole, that turned out absolutely beautiful! We had a nice fourth. Our daughter brought our granddaughters over and we walked uptown to watch the parade. It's a bit old fashioned with all the local Junior Miss pageant winners, local karate clubs, high school bands, the Shriners, fire trucks, local officials and my favorite, the antique tractors! The girls got lots of candy and there was a woman handing out ice pops so they were very happy.

Lovely quilt Nicole! You will treasure it for years! Your 4th sounds very fun and sparkly! I’m with you on piecing quilt backs. My least favourite job! Do you have to mail your quilts to your long armer? Have a happy week sewing!

I've bought wide back fabric from Fat Quarter Shop, Missouri Star, and eQuilter - all online shops. You can search with terms like "wideback" and "108 inch" and the like.

Beautiful finish! My favorite place to shop in person also has a big online presence whittlesfabrics.com
When I do place an online order, I can't believe how fast they ship it out to me.

Your quilt looks wonderful! And thanks to all of you for your backing stores. I'm in the middle of piecing a backing right now and I just hate it- I don't have a good measuring system and so it's a lot of work.

Hancock’s of Paducah has a large selection. Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I came this close to starting this quilt but it is still on my list to make. I was on a bus trip with quilters when the quilt along started and the quilt shop had a huge selection of perfect! Fabrics but hated to haul that many bolts to the cutting table😂

What a gorgeous quilt -- your hard work really paid off! Try Marshall's Dry Goods - huge selection and really great prices

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. All those too many to count half-square triangles, but so worth the effort.

Rossville Quilts is have a Fourth of July Sale - a different category each day. Tomorrow the category is Extra Wide Yardage 35% off. That's a pretty good savings. I've not ordered backings from them but I have ordered from them before and they are very reliable.

Your quilt top is beautiful & I can see how flat it came out! Slow & steady won that race, for sure! We had a rainy, chilly 4th but the parades & fireworks went on as planned. Congratulations on the finish!

Wow - this is a really beautiful quilt. Excellent work, especially considering you got tired of all those little half square triangles! The colors work so nicely together, too.

This is a beautiful quilt, but all those triangles! Have you looked at Fabricshack.com for wide fabric? They have terrific prices, inexpensive shipping and are great people to work with. They are a brick and mortar store that has gone to online sales only since COVID (le sigh).

Your quilt is beautiful. Quilted Twins has a big selection of 108 inch backing fabric. They’re very reasonably priced.

Hancocks of Paducah and bluemagicquiltworks.com have lots of backings
Posted by: Lisa Stack | July 05, 2023 at 08:48 AM
https://www.overtherainbowfabrics.com/ this is in Washington.
https://www.missouriquiltco.com/ This company has $5 shipping and lots of fabrics. Just at the shops - lots of backings.
Both companies deliver in about a week, Rainbow quicker for me - half a continent away, than MO star - an hour away.
Hope this helps. Your longarmer will love you for using wide backs.
Love your quilt top.

A couple of weeks ago I found one of my favorite backings on sale at Missouri Star on sale. It had a spot at checkout for a coupon code so I googled it and got a code for 20-25% off! It bought 12 yards! I like Composition and Zen Chic’s Modern Backgrounds. They go with almost everything.
Your top turned out lovely!!
