I wasn't going to do it. Not another block-of-the-month sew-along. Then I heard the Fat Quarter Shop had sold out of the finishing kits and the sign-ups were closed. Then it was announced that they had been able to produce more finishing kits and sign-ups were open again. Have you heard of FOMO? Fear Of Missing Out? I had it big time, and in a moment of weakness, I signed up for the Designer Mystery Sew-Along 2024.
This is the beautifully packaged Fat Quarter Shop Finishing Kit.
Well, at least it isn't in blues and greens which the last two years have been. I think I am done with that color combination for a while. The fabric for this sew-along is super cute, featuring reds, aqua, and pink. The collection is called Summer House by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.
The way the sew-along works is that you get one block each month from the Fat Quarter Shop. You can just make the blocks and figure out what to do with them, or purchase the FQS finishing kit, which I think is the way to go. This finishing kit indicates that each quilt block will be surrounded by units that form a large house block.
I just love any kit Fat Quarter Shop puts together. You can absolutely count on getting very generous amounts of fabric to make your blocks. As a matter of fact, many people end up having enough fabric left over to make an additional smaller quilt! The instructions are always clear with fantastic color diagrams. I've got my pieces all ready to sew for Block One.
And here she is, Block One! I'm not thrilled with how my roof pieces fit together in this first block, but in all the other roof units, I have figured out how to put the pieces together more seamlessly so there isn't a weird cut-up house floating in the middle of the roof.
In fact, I decided to really be organized this time around. I got all the pieces for the finishing kit cut out, and plan to get all the roof units made up ahead of time.
I've discovered that I really enjoy having multiple projects going on at one time and a block-of-the-month program is a fun way to do that without feeling a lot of pressure. Besides, I have been wrapping up my UFOs at a great clip lately, so why not join another sew-along? lol I'll have one more finish to show you, hopefully this week. I am waiting on a fabric for an inner border to arrive and then I will get it finished.
I hope you are all having a great week. We are having the worst heat wave we've ever experienced. 108° two days in a row this week and the temperature is only coming down one degree each of the next few days. It's brutal.
Great rationalization, Nichole! Ha Ha. You deserve to reward yourself for completing so many quilts lately. Stitch on in the cool of your house!

Hopefully you'll get a break in the heat soon. It's miserable here in Pennsylvania but definitely not as bad as California.
Bunny Hill always has such sweet fabrics. I'm sure this will be a darling quilt.

What a sweet quilt! I'm glad you figured out a solution to a problem with the pattern.
The heat here in Oregon has been so bad, and now we have smoke in our area, so going outside is not an option.
Stay cool!

Beautiful quilt! I am working on roofs too, Firm Foundations. I need to make twelve roof units and eliminated two seams by using the
Folded corner😊 ruler. I am left handed and it took a little bit to wrap my head around the instructions but use it a lot now, especially for cutting angles for binding…. No drawing lines or dog ears

What a cute quilt and the fabrics are adorable! It’s going to be fun to work on. It has a 50s vintage feel with the aqua, pink and red fabric. I like how you have pieces for the blocks and finishing cut out and ready.
Hope that you get a break in your weather. 🧵✂️🧵

This is going to be an adorable quilt! I am a fan of Bunny Hill Designs fabrics. We are waiting for fall to visit the Sacramento area. It's way too hot now. Hopefully you can stay in the air-conditioned house and sew to your heart's content!

I'm so glad you joined. I live vicariously through others these days. ;p FQS and It"s Sew Emma do the best job in pattern directions. Everything is clear and correct. Love them.
We had 2 nice days of 75 to 80 degree weather and now it's going back to the heat. ugh. What we've noticed the most living in the same house for 33 yrs is how it just doesn't cool off as much at night. I've read that with global warming this is true all over the world. :(
I can't wait to see your next finish. Also, I've recently embraced JOMO(joy of missing out). The idea of just saying no and trying to find time/space to calm my mind.

Gosh. Darn. Cute! I love those mixture of colors. Glad you got a chance to join -- making all those cute houses into a quilt will no doubt be fun.

Sorry you’re experiencing those triple digits 🥵 they are not fun! Make sure to hydrate and don’t overexert yourself. Love your box and that box is adorable 🥰 FQS does a very nice job with their packaging. Can’t wait to see your progress

I too joined this cute BOM:). I had to substitute the roof fabric tho. I couldn't deal with the cut off house situation.
