This pretty block is Picnic Star, designed for the Summer in the Country sew-along by Susan Vaughan @thefeltedpear. It really could not have been easier to make, and I think it makes a very nice effect.
I followed the pattern instructions for this block, which do call for making these triangle units larger and trimming them down to 4 1/2". I used my Cute Cuts ruler for trimming and they all came out just right.
Here are the block units: four triangle units and five four-patch units.
All laid out and ready to stitch.
Not too many more blocks to make. Now I need to figure out my setting! A couple of quilters have sent me photos of their progress with this sew-along, which I am excited to share.
This is Joy's quilt, all ready for its borders. I love a diagonal setting! Her blocks really stand out against that white background.
And here is Patt's beautiful quilt. I really like her use of the navy in her quilt. Notice that flag block on the left? I love that! It totally fits in the Americana feel of this quilt. Patt, if you can, tell us in the comments where you found the pattern for that block, it is just great.
Do check out Nancy's blocks on her Instagram account as well.
Thanks for much for sharing Joy and Patt!
So many great blocks! This one looks like it was less challenging than some of the others. The fabrics you’ve chosen are so bright and summery, the blocks with the navy and darker red have a whole different feel to them. Love seeing your progress!

Great job everyone! ❤️🤍💙 I like those flag blocks that Patt & Nancy added to their tops. Your Picnic Star is outstanding, especially with the fabrics that you chose! I agree diagonal settings are appealing & Joy's looks nice with the bright whites!

A day late and a dollar short! Catching up on blogs today. Love your colors for this quilt. And lo and behold, I see 2 charm packs of that very line of fabric. It's such a cheerful shade of RWB. Great blocks too. Lovely quilt coming up.
